The award-winning Sustainability Coordinator (SC) Program provides UBC Vancouver staff and faculty with opportunities and resources to promote and implement sustainable practices in UBC’s 300 departments.
Developed here at UBC in 1999, the SC Program aims to engage employees at UBC Point Grey, Robson Square and Teaching Hospital Sites in sustainability and to provide them with the support, awareness, skills and tools needed to foster sustainability in their department. Using two to four hours of work time per month, with supervisor permission, SC's help to:
The UBC Sustainability Office provides Sustainability Coordinators with easy-to-use tools to promote sustainability in their departments. From catering and event planning to workplace energy conservation and composting, these tools provide step-by-step actions on how to implement sustainable practices.
By becoming a Sustainability Coordinator, UBC staff and faculty get to join a network of 150 sustainability champions across campus, attend educational events to learn more about sustainability issues on campus and develop skills through sustainability-related training sessions.
