Sustainability is the responsibility and commitment of our entire community.
UBC has a rich history of interdisciplinary thinking, and we apply that same thinking to how we address sustainability. The magnitude of opportunities within sustainability demand collaborations and partnerships that extend beyond traditional boundaries, disciplines, sectors, and geographies. We invite participants across the academic and operational areas of the university as well as the larger community to join the conversation. We can best achieve our objectives through inclusion.
The USI supports the University’s strategic goal of making UBC a living laboratory and agent of change by combining its sustainability leadership in teaching, research and operations, as outlined in Place and Promise: The UBC Plan.
Four groups are directly tasked with leveraging the teaching, research and operations that are at the core of our existence.
Beyond this core group, a myriad of student, faculty and staff groups contribute to UBC's sustainability efforts. Just three examples are the UBC students' Alma Mater Society (AMS), UBC Continuing Studies' Centre for Sustainability, and the UBC Centre for Sport and Sustainability.
Together we work collaboratively to leverage the University’s environmental, economic and social sustainability efforts.
