The mandate of the UBC Sustainability Initiative's Teaching and Learning Office (TLO) is to educate the next generation of sustainability leaders by transforming and coordinating undergraduate and graduate sustainability education at UBC. To support this mandate, the TLO launched two new programs in 2010 - the Teaching & Learning Fellowship Program and the Spotlight Program.
The Sustainability Teaching & Learning Fellowship Program is open to full-time UBC faculty members who have a demonstrated interest in sustainability education. The Program is open to individuals from all academic disciplines with a strong background in teaching and curriculum development and an interest in innovative pedagogies. Fellows should appreciate the opportunity to guide the advancement of sustainability education at UBC, both within individual disciplines and across the university as a whole.
A key outcome of the 2010-2011 Fellowship Program was the development of a framework for advancing undergraduate sustainability education at UBC. To learn more, we encourage you to read the document entitled "Transforming Sustainability Education at UBC: Desired Student Attributes and Pathways for Implementation".
The Sustainability Teaching & Learning Spotlight Program is open to UBC instructors who have a demonstrated interest in sustainability education and who wish to further develop or refine an existing course focused on, or related to, sustainability issues. An award of $5000 is available to successful applicants.
UBC Reads Sustainability is an exciting program which brings well-known authors on the topic of sustainability to our campus to engage in a campus-wide discussion. Why the emphasis on reading? Sustainability matters to all of us and we want people to read how it matters to others and to think critically about how it matters to themselves. This program is brought to you in partnership by the AMS, CTLT, UBCmix and the USI Teaching and Learning Office.
If you have questions or comments, please contact the USI Teaching & Learning Office.
