WEBINAR: Earthquake-induced soil liquefaction: geotechnical hazards, impacts on infrastructure, and mitigation methods

The Lower Mainland of British Columbia is located in a seismically active geographic region. As such, it is of relevance to recognize the possibility of an earthquake in our neighbourhood.  

Join Dr. Dharma Wijewickreme for a presentation with particular focus on earthquake-induced soil liquefaction. Key findings from a comprehensive laboratory experimental research program conducted at the University of British Columbia to study the mechanical behavior of natural fine-grained soils will be included. The impact of liquefaction-induced geotechnical hazards and their impacts on the performance of infrastructure, along with engineering approaches to mitigate the risk of damage due to liquefaction will also be presented.

Dr. Dharma Wijewickreme is Professor of Civil Engineering and Director of the Pipeline Integrity Institute (PII) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada. He joined UBC in 2001 after a 11-year tenure in engineering consulting practice where he was primary involved in earthquake geotechnical engineering projects.
