Our culture and society are changing due to rapid developments in media and technology. Focus on improving your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills by studying media and technology from a Canadian point of view.

Using presentations, debates, surveys and interviews with native English speakers, develop new language skills you need to communicate openly and confidently in academic situations. Use your critical thinking skills and strategies to combine and analyze information from different types of media, and to gauge the influence of media and technology on future trends.

Through this course, you can:

develop skills and strategies essential for academic success
improve academic vocabulary, pronunciation and fluency
enhance your confidence in English communications
discuss current issues related to media and technology while developing your language ability
develop confidence in working in groups and one-on-one
enjoy a variety of class activities including group projects, lectures, discussions and presentations
participate in fun social activities with other UBC Future Global Leaders students from across Canada and around the world.
